Get your property viewing-ready
Dressing your home for a viewing can be tricky. It’s important that the property appeals to a wide range of potential buyers and/or tenants, and to do this, some of the more personal aspects may need to be toned down. Finding that delicate balance between ‘a neutral canvas’ and ‘a property with character’ is difficult. It can be useful to approach dressing your property like a hotel; think fluffy towels, fresh linen and the occasional luxury product.
A few tips and tricks to get you started…
In a bedroom, it’s great to have:
- Simple, fresh bed linen – Wilkos sell inexpensive cotton covers in a range of colours (neutrals like ivory and grey are great)
- Clear night stands – tidy away personal items like jewellery, medication, coins etc.
- No piles of laundry
In a bathroom, it’s great to have:
- Matching, fluffy towels in a neutral colour – try Tesco, Wilko or IKEA
- Posh hand soap – we love this one from Aesop, also check out brands like Baylis & Harding and Method
- A clean bathroom suite (with most products out of sight)
- A full roll of loo-paper
- Sparkling clean mirrors
- No piles of laundry
In a kitchen, it’s great to have:
- A big bowl filled with citrus fruits – looks plentiful, adds colour and gives off a little fresh scent
- Clean work surfaces and appliances (no washing up in the sink)
- Empty bins
- A junk-free kitchen table (difficult, we know!)
Also think about:
- Putting a clean new welcome mat in the hallway
- Ensuring property signage (like door numbers and buzzer labels) are clear and correct
- Touching up any paintwork that’s looking worn or shabby
- Using scented candles or vaporisers – stick to clean, fresh scents like peppermint, lemon and eucalyptus
- Cleaning floors and carpets
- Adding a little greenery with potted plants or flowers – succulents are hardy and easy to maintain
- Regulating temperature (do windows need to be opened? does the heating need to be on?)
- Ensuring lighting is sufficient and appropriate
- Cleaning windows
