And…they did it – here’s proof!
Our fabulous 3 from #TeamLL braved the cold on October 10th for the annual Depaul sleepout along with fellow supporters of Depaul UK.
By all means, this was no way close to the experience that any homeless person has to go through, however, creating this buzz and further awareness was undoubtedly worthwhile!
We raised £1,225 over two weeks – Thank you to all of our supporters!👏
The night kicked off with an inspiring opening presentation from the Depaul team followed by entertainment from an amazing singer and ex-Depaul client who also told her remarkable story of her road to homelessness and how, with some help, she turned it all around – we were totally in awe of her courage and determination!
The weather was actually quite kind to everyone and it was quite mild, some say too warm for the sleeping bag that night.
Here’s our Claudine on her experience –
– What made you sign up to this event? I wanted to be more involved with fundraising for the charity we support.
– Feelings when you actually bedded down to sleep?
Then again when you woke up? Whilst I am used to camping outside, being on cold concrete wasn’t easy and made you really think about what challenges homeless people deal with on a daily basis. When I woke up, I ached all over and had it been a colder night I don’t think I would have slept at all and was looking forward to a shower and my own bed.
– Is it what you anticipated? Yes, but so well put together by Depaul
– Highs and lows during the evening?
Highs – smashing out fundraising target, few cheeky drinks at the bar and Jkoko (singer who Depaul have helped) she was great! Lows – outside noises are amplified, cold concrete to sleep on, Toby’s snoring!! 🙂
– What do you think would help if you were faced with sleeping out again?
I don’t think taking any luxuries with you to make the night easier is the right thing, you need to take the bare minimum to fully appreciate what the homeless go through.
– Would you do it again? Yes – in a heartbeat!!
Mark and Toby were pretty much in agreement that the night is so long and nothing really prepares you for how vulnerable you can feel sleeping out with no shelter.
Thank you to them and a big thanks to #TeamDepaul for looking after our guys and the fantastic organisation of the event.

You too can make a difference!
Mark, Claud and Toby’s latest fundraiser for Depaul UK!
On 10th October, three of our fab team from Leonard Leese are volunteering to sleep rough with little more than a sleeping bag and a few extra layers of clothes! <chilly!> This is only for one night though, we can’t even imagine what it feels like to wake up everyday not knowing where you will be sleeping the next 😢
This organised event by Depaul UK is taking place at the Kia Oval cricket ground where supporters will gather to raise vital funds to help support the charity plight to end youth homelessness plus to assist beyond, in order to encourage stability and be part of the local community.
As you may know, we have supported Depaul UK in many ways including fundraising through marathons, a previous sleepout, providing work placements and the JustLet2Donate campaign where £50 from every let throughout the Summer is contributed to the cause.
Mark, Claud and Toby are doing this to raise further awareness and more funds to help Depaul UK’s plight to end youth homelessness for good by implementing preventative measures through programs throughout the community – for this, we are very grateful to them!
